Client FAQs

How do you find your independent contractors?

Referral.  For the last nine years, career professionals in the Source network have spread the word about this unique way to achieve work/life balance.  As a result, there is a surprising number of accounting professionals that want to work from home and step out of their more demanding career track.  They are highly motivated as a result and very willing to do all levels of work, providing a valuable service to our clients.  As you can imagine, the quality of work is outstanding.  See Our Proven Profile.

Why do I need someone with this level of experience?

The benefit of using our experienced professionals is that they are obviously capable of providing those accounting services that may not require their higher skill set while at the same time providing insight and analytical skills that a less experienced accountant may not have.  Additionally, their experience has prepared them for the maturity, discipline, and know-how that is required to work successfully from home.

Why are these more experienced independent contractors less expensive than an on-site employee?

Because our professionals are more experienced, they are often able to develop work efficiencies that make the fixed pricing model more profitable for them. More importantly, because our professionals are home-based, part-time, independent contractors and they are experienced, our clients avoid all of the following:

benefits - vacation pay - sick or personal leave pay - high turnover - recurring recruiting fees - personnel headaches - ongoing training and development costs - HR administration - continuing education expenses – expensive office space - computer hardware costs - employee lunches - staff parties - office supplies - high level supervision

And clients get SCALABILITY - corporate memory - AND skill sets they can tap when needed that they would never get with entry level accountants.

How much can I actually save?

Your degree of savings depends on your choices.  To give you an idea, here is a “Real-life” example of the savings experienced by a large property accounting department. Example

Why is turnover in these positions so low?

There are a lot of theories on this but mainly it is because it works for the client and the professional.  See Our Winning Formula.  The consulting is key to this because the intentional aspect of how it is set up and structured is what makes it lasting for all involved.  In-house accountants often leave because they are searching for career advancement or the work is inefficient and frustrating.  Our team members are motivated by their desire for work/life balance as opposed to career advancement.  Additionally, since our goal is to eliminate inefficient, frustrating processes, our teams are part of a satisfying process and are able to produce a top notch work product.  At a recent Source Property Accounting gathering of telecommuters, many of them had been doing this work for over 14 years!

Why do you specialize in property management companies?

Property management companies have easy access to cloud based software.  Additionally, the property management industry by nature is set up for telecommuting because of their multiple site business model.  We believe we could employ our model with any type of business but Source has chosen to target property management companies because of our special knowledge of the software products that are likely to be used (Real Page, AMSI, MRI, Yardi, Peoplesoft, JD Edwards) and our expertise (many of our telecommuters come from the property management industry).

How do I handle communication if I can’t physically see and meet with my accountant?

Different clients have different levels of need for access and ”face time”.  Most clients hold a set monthly conference call with their accountant/accounting team.  Outside of this meeting, email and phone communication is key and checked daily.  Web-ex and even video conferencing is also employed.  Local clients often have personal meetings and may even have their accountant come in once a week or once a month for “face time”.  National clients sometimes host annual meetings to build camaraderie and for training.
